Tips for Choosing a Kitchen Window

Are you planning to remodel your kitchen? If so, you’re making a smart choice! Kitchens are one of the most important rooms in a home. Not only are they where most families spend a good chunk of their time, but they also tend to be a major selling point (or non-selling point) for homes.
Remodeling your kitchen gives you the chance to add in or update all kinds of features, such as countertops, cabinets, appliances, and more. Make sure you don’t overlook your kitchen windows however! By adding in a pretty window or just replacing or renovating an old one, you can have a huge impact on the value of your home. For some reason, people just love having attractive kitchen windows to complete the open, sunny quality that all kitchens should have.

Easy Open and Close
First things first, make sure that any window you choose is easy to open and close. Not only will this be more convenient for you, but it will also help to eliminate moisture build-up and the rotting, mold, and mildew that can come from it. Windows that are near sinks – a popular location- are especially prone to moisture problems, so having a window that you can open and close daily, especially if it’s near a water source, is a must. Windows that are easy to open and close can also help with ventilation, which you really need when a kitchen grows hot from cooking or smoky from a cooking disaster!

Easy to Clean
In addition to choosing a window that’s easy to open and close, you also want one that’s easy to clean. With all the cooking, splattering, and general chaos that go on in the standard kitchen, your windows are going to get dirty from time to time. As such, you don’t want windows that stain easily or that are tough to clean. For easy cleaning, vinyl, fiberglass, and strongly-stained wood are all good options.

Easy to Love
Finally, even if you plan on selling your home in the future, you still have to live with the window you choose! Pick something that you actually like. Go for a color, a style, a design, or even a special feature that you really want, even if it’s means splurging. So many companies just sell basic, run-of-the-mill windows where each one is like the other. You don’t want that. You want something unique that has all of these great features but that still shows off who you are and your personal style.

Also, take notice of the fact that we’ve used the word “easy” several times. That’s because the last thing you want is a window that’ s going to make your life more difficult, even in little ways. In today’s busy world, something simple, effective, attractive, and functional is really all you need.
